Essential Question: Why doesn’t any one type of living thing take over the world?
All living organisms interact with and are dependent on their environment and each other. How things interact results in a flow of energy and a cycling of materials that are essential for life. Competition occurs between different species for resources such as food, water and shelter. Competition can also occur within species for things like mates. Students should be familiar with the concept of food chains and webs.
